Ethiopia is severely affected by the changing climate. Rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns and new invasive pests require innovative approaches to maintain coffee production. On the one hand, the quality of our first-class coffee should not suffer and, on the other, our ecosystem should not be damaged.

In close cooperation with local institutions, we are researching suitable coffee varieties that can withstand the new climatic conditions while maintaining the unique flavour profiles for which Ethiopian coffee is known and loved. At Desta's Coffee, we provide trial plots where different coffee varieties are grown on a trial basis to develop the best growing methods of the future. We strive for a balance between the use of modern and affordable cultivation technologies and respect for traditional cultivation methods. Our research aims to protect nature and at the same time increase the efficiency of farming operations.
