Bees

If the bees die, so do the people. Nature's most important farm animals must be protected and honoured.

The true guardians of our ecosystem

Bees are much more than just small insects. They are the true guardians of our ecosystem. Their tireless efforts guarantee the life we know and love.

At Desta's Coffee, we recognise that protecting bees is a fundamental task that goes far beyond the boundaries of our company. Our initiatives are designed not only to preserve the bees, but also to ensure that future generations will be able to experience the marvellous diversity and beauty of nature.

Little heroes a make big difference

Bees are little exceptional creatures. With every beat of their wings, they contribute to the fertility and growth of plants. Around a third of our food is directly or indirectly dependent on pollination by bees. Without them, there would be no juicy apples, no sweet strawberries and no flavoursome coffee beans. The role of bees as pollinators is therefore of crucial importance. It is not just about the reproduction of plants per se, but about the preservation of our entire ecosystem. After all, bees generate the balance of biodiversity on our planet.

Our responsibility

Recognising the central role that bees play in our ecosystem, we at Desta's Coffee are committed to protecting these little heroes. The global decline in bee populations in recent years is alarming. The balance of our ecosystem is at stake. Various pesticides, monocultures and advancing climate change are causing massive damage to bees.

Our initiatives aim to protect the bee population in Ethiopia and enable bee colonies to recover and grow in the long term.

Bee-friendly agriculture

Every step we take towards bee-friendly agriculture benefits not only the bees, but all of us. We work exclusively with local farmers and promote bee-friendly farming practices. Our certified organic coffee farm is completely free of harmful pesticides. We promote diverse planting that provides bees with a rich source of food. Always with the aim of strengthening the local bee population. Our farm's own beehives pollinate our coffee plants optimally. Thanks to our hard-working helpers, we enjoy incredibly flavoursome coffee beans.

Educational programmes and awareness-raising

We are involved in various educational programmes to raise awareness of the importance of bees in our ecosystem. From workshops to school projects, we inform our local community about the important role that bees play in biodiversity. A key element of these measures is also sharing simple tips on how each of us can help to ensure the continued existence of bees in Ethiopia.
